Medical & BioScience Academy

Thank you for your interest in the Medical & BioScience Academy at Longmont High School! Applications from current 8th graders for Fall 2021 is now open. To apply, please fill out the online application and submit the most recent copy of your report cards for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade (which should include grades and attendance record). Report cards may be mailed or hand-delivered to the Longmont High School main office or sent electronically to Elizabeth Burnison ( Although we have passed the December 15th deadline for priority admission, we are still accepting applications and will continue to accept students until all spaces are filled. 

Students who live outside Longmont High School’s designated attendance area must also complete an open enrollment application. Open enrollment begins December 1 and closes December 15, and is now available online

A selection committee will review your completed application. When an admissions decision has been reached, you will recieve an acceptance or denial email/letter. Applicants who submit the required documents by the December deadline will be sent notifications on or after January 7.

About the MBSA Program

The Medical and BioScience Academy (MBSA) of Longmont High School is designed for students interested in careers or post-secondary education rooted in the health sciences.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, industries surrounding the health sciences (including biotechnology, medical studies, and other related fields) are expected to experience a tremendous amount of growth over the next 10 to 20 years. MBSA students are primed to take advantage of this opportunity.

The MBSA provides rigorous college-preparatory curricula and instruction that prepares students for highly competitive admissions, and post-secondary education programs in medicine, research, and allied health sciences.

MBSA students are required to enroll in Honors-level or Advanced Placement (AP) math and science classes, ensuring a strong knowledge base. Students concurrently experience courses such as Introduction to Health Care Foundations, Nutrition & Wellness, Anatomy & Physiology, Forensic Science and Philosophy 2 (Bioethics).

Along with rigorous coursework, MBSA seniors apply for and complete a one-semester capstone project through an internship at a health science or bioscience organization.

MBSA Senior Internship and Capstone Project

Seniors will apply for an internship and complete a one-semester capstone, research or senior design project with a health science or bioscience organization. During internships, students interact with health science professionals, apply modern technology for medical applications, and develop skills needed in the medical and bioscience workplace.

Guaranteed College Admissions

Students who successfully complete the rigorous coursework of the MBSA program are guaranteed admission to the following universities, if they meet the minimum grade point average and ACT composite scores.

  • Colorado State University – Fort Collins: 3.25 minimum GPA, ACT composite 22+ and/or SAT combined score 1030+
  • University of Colorado Denver: 3.20 minimum GPA, ACT composite 21+
