Empowering Tomorrow’s Entrepreneurs: Longmont High’s FBLA Program Inspires Success

Longmont High School’s Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter has established itself as a hub of talent and success, consistently producing exceptional award winners. FBLA is a renowned national student business organization with over 200,000 members that fosters leadership, business skills, and career development among high school students. Longmont’s FBLA chapter, one of the largest in the state and an integral part of their High School of Business program, has not only showcased remarkable student achievements, but also cultivated a strong sense of community and passion for entrepreneurship. In addition, it has served as a launching pad for aspiring young leaders by providing them with resources, mentorship, and opportunities to thrive.

Seven members of Longmont’s FBLA chapter recently showcased their business skills and expertise as they competed against students from across the globe at the FBLA National Leadership Conference in Atlanta. Three students from Longmont achieved top-10 finishes, including a prestigious national championship title.

Malia Hendricks, a distinguished graduate of the class of 2023 and this year’s salutatorian, won the national championship in the highly-competitive Job Interview event, known for its rigorous standards and intense competition.

Monty Puttroff, an upcoming junior, delivered an impressive performance by securing 6th place in the Introduction to Marketing Concepts event. Puttroff’s achievement exemplifies his deep understanding of marketing principles and his ability to apply strategic thinking to real-world scenarios.

Ella McGregor, also an upcoming junior, displayed her expertise in Supply Chain Management by winning 7th place at the national level. McGregor’s achievement highlights her analytical prowess and ability to manage complex logistical operations. “No matter what industry you go into, you need an understanding of how business and the economy works,” said McGregor. “Studying business and being a part of organizations like FBLA gives me a leg up not only when it comes to future employment, but having the knowledge to be an empowered citizen.”

The achievements of these extraordinary students not only underscore their individual talents but also reflect the commitment to excellence that Longmont High School’s FBLA program instills in its participants. The program’s emphasis on practical skills, leadership development, and entrepreneurial spirit has played a pivotal role in the success of these students on a national platform.

“The key to our program’s success lies in our ability to get students excited about the business world through comprehensive and hands-on training and exposure to various business disciplines. We go the extra mile to equip our students with the tools they need to excel in competitive events, including the FBLA National Leadership Conference,” said Jim Giveans, one of Longmont’s FBLA advisors. “By instilling a strong work ethic, promoting collaboration, and encouraging innovation, we empower our students to reach their full potential and achieve remarkable success in the business world. Witnessing their enthusiasm and eagerness to excel is truly inspiring, and I am honored to be part of their journey.”

Longmont High School’s FBLA chapter continues to foster the next generation of business leaders. The achievements of these remarkable students serve as an inspiration for current and future participants. The program will undoubtedly remain a driving force in shaping the leaders and innovators of tomorrow.
