For a team of Advanced Placement chemistry and biology students at Longmont High School, being SMART is a huge compliment. These 9 students are part of the SMART (Students Modeling a Research Topic) team that recently presented at the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology’s (ASBMB) conference in Boston, Massachusetts.
Others aren't even Longmont High students. They come from Niwot or Westview Middle School. But they all come together in the Longmont High School band hall to pound sticks against wood and skin and to be the best drumline in state.
"They're still a young group but they've grown a lot from last year," said band director David Merrill. "A really hardworking group of students. They get here early, they work outside of practice, they keep their grades up, they do everything really well."
