On February 25th, Longmont High School's Medical & BioScience Academy (MBSA) students visited the Biomedical Engineering Program at Colorado State University. During their visit, they toured the newly-constructed Bioengineering Building, designed and built a prototype for a prosthetic foot, and learned more about the field of biomedical engineering from Dr. Kevin Lear, Director of the Biomedical Engineering Undergraduate Program.
Six Longmont High School students in the Medical & BioScience Academy began their internship at Longmont United Hospital with a day-long orientation on January 19th. This semester, MBSA students will be conducting their senior internship experiences in various health care areas including radiology, emergency medicine, nursing, family practice, nutrition, orthopedics, and mental health.
The Longmont Boys Basketball team improved to 12-0 on Saturday following a win over 7th ranked 5A Montbello. The Trojans are the only undefeated team remaining in 4A boys basketball and have been ranked #1 since the beginning of the season, while the Girls Basketball team has improved to 10-3 with impressive wins over the likes of Thompson Valley, Niwot, and Northridge. Starting Fall 2015, Longmont High's MBSA students will be guaranteed admissions to Colorado State University. Students who successfully complete the rigorous coursework of the MBSA program, have a minimum 3.25 GPA and ACT composite score 22+, and apply to CSU by November 1 will be guaranteed admissions to this world-class university.
Longmont High School's Medical & BioScience Academy is inviting current 8th and 9th grade students who are interested in the MBSA program to apply for Fall 2015 enrollment. Application instructions can be found here. MBSA applicants must fill out an online application and turn in a recent transcript to the LHS Counseling Office. The application deadline is January 15, 2015.
Congratulations to Longmont High School students Jenna Moore, Hallie Bergner, and Nutsuree Banjerdsin for coming in 3rd place at the Colorado Stock Market Challenge on November 6th. They earned over $400,000 in capital gains during the competition. The competition gave students the opportunity to apply lessons from their Introduction to Business class taught by Jamey DeWitt.

High School's football players have made it a tradition to spend a day during summer camp focusing on improving the community instead of their own athletic skills.
Their efforts recently garnered the attention of NFL Films, which documented this year's "day of service" for a possible television spot on NBC during Sunday's Broncos game. NFL Films also is planning a compilation showcasing football teams from across the country to air before or during the Super Bowl.
China is an immense and vibrant country with more than 5,000 years of history. Chinese is the most widely spoken language in the world. China has the 3rd largest economy and is the 2nd largest trading partner of the United States. Learning Chinese has become important and popular in American schools. Many high schools offer Chinese programs as an advanced curricular experience that requires an application process. SVVSD makes Chinese available to all students without extra requirements.
