Advanced Placement Studio Art (2-D)

This course is designed to be the equivalent of the general entry-level college art course. It is recommended for students who excel in various two-dimensional art techniques and media. Students who take this course should have a high level of motivation, diligence, commitment, and independence. In addition to the portfolio examination, students will be expected to create artwork outside of class time, participate in class critiques and discussions, complete daily exercises to develop skills, prepare slides, and mat their own work. Drawing from observation will be emphasized, and students will be encouraged to develop a personal direction in their work. To obtain college credit, students will prepare and submit an essay and portfolio with three sections: Quality (for which actual artwork is submitted); Concentration (an in-depth, individual exploration, submitted as slides); and Breadth (demonstration of a wide range of experience, submitted as slides). This course prepares students for the Studio Art 2-D Advanced Placement Examination.
