Students will learn to use materials, tools, and techniques for black and white, film photograph as well as color, digital photography. Film specifics include: alternative and experimental processes in the darkroom-toning, solarization, multiple exposures and medium format. Digital specifics include: using a Digital SLR camera and beginning basic adobe Photoshop tools and techniques. The semester begins in film and progresses into digital. Appreciation of photography as an art form and mode of communication is stressed. This class is for students who are interested in pursuing photography further and who are self-motivated. The reading for this course is often technical’ therefore, better than average reading skills are recommended. A 35mm SLR camera and/or a DSLR camera is not required, be beneficial to have.
